Epigallocatechin gallate (EPCG)
Epigallocatechin gallate is a substance extracted from green tea and makes up to 30% of its dry matter. The tea plant has been used in China for at least 6,000 years and is one of the most important everyday beverages in Asia. In contrast to black tea, oxidation, i.e. the decomposition of the leaves by oxygen, is prevented by steaming during drying. This means that more health-promoting ingredients are retained.
Epigallocatechin gallate, also known as EGCG, is a catechin and has strong antioxidant properties. Studies suggest that EGCG has anti-inflammatory effects and can reduce the risk of certain diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. In addition, it is associated with positive effects on metabolism and the immune system.
